I’m not really excited for it. Maybe in 2008-2009 whenever it comes out I may have changed my mind, but right now I think we need more time with the original before going into spin-off mode. The Office still seems so new to me!! Even though I’ve been watching it since the begining. We need like 8 seasons before a spin off!! lol

I just found out about this from my brother… I really can’t say how I feel about this right now. Maybe if I knew more about it & who else was going to be in it. I just hope it doesn’t take away from the real “Office”.

And NBC thought “Joey” was a guaranteed hit as well. Some people never learn.

Doesn’t sound like a good idea to me. If you read a lot of the comments on that one site it sounds like many agree. People were suggesting names like, “The Mistake.” Sounds appropriate. I’m going to be angry if they ruin our show by jumping into the spin-off gig!

I thought the SAME thing Jen! The exact same thing!

I agree with Susan that maybe I could be on board more if I knew who was going to be in it and just more about what the show will be. As for right now, I’m really worried that they’re going to take Dwight away and ruin the original.

I’m hoping they don’t take ANYONE away (especially a MAIN character – they can’t possibly do that, can they?) but use people who have bit parts right now. That is how it sounded from the one article. The Office won’t be the same with even one cast member removed. The only people that could probably not be missed if they weren’t seen real often are the warehouse people… or I guess maybe Ryan and the corporate people we don’t see real often.

I wonder if because The Accountants did so well with the Webisodes they thought they can do as well with a spin off. I’ll admit that I do plan to watch it… but like I said… I hope it doesn’t ruin what they already have going for them.

You know Melaie, the first thought that came to my mind was a Bob Vance spin-off. I don’t see how they could possibly take any of the charaters away from our show. Not saying that BV isn’t important but he and his crew would make a funny comedy. That’s just my opinion. But like you said I hope they aren’t thinking of taking away any main characters, well they’re all “main” to me…lol! I guess we’ll just wait and see.

Wow … hold on a minute? Have we all lost faith in our favorite show? It’s going to be “ruined” by a spin-off? Well, I hate to say it, but a show that gets ruined by a spin-off (successful, unsuccessful, or otherwise) wasn’t much more than a half step away from ruin to begin with. Is that where we see our Emmy-Award-Winning, critically-acclaimed show? I’d like to think that if it’s strong enough to survive all the nay-sayers who claimed it could never match up to the original, a less-than-supportive network for it’s first three season, and now a 5-month-long writers’ strike, that it could ‘survive’ a spin-off. And, um, who’s to say that a spin off would be BAD? No one has said anything about taking Dwight or any of the others away from Scranton … I simply saw a mention of perhaps some of the characters popping into the new show, whatever it may be, but the emphasis was on NEW FACES AND NEW PLACES. And I, for one, enjoyed the foray in to Stamford. Sure, it sucked because Jim wasn’t in Scranton, but if it weren’t for that trip to Stamford, we wouldn’t have had Karen and we wouldn’t have Andy now. Should they have not added Andy because maybe it wouldn’t work? No, you try things that seem reasonable and see what happens. And if Greg Daniels, who should be like our GOD, the man who brought the beloved British Office to America in an all new version and made it a hit despite the odds, thinks that he is man enough to executive produce another show … maybe we should have a little faith in him, no? Should Dick Wolf have only produced the original Law and Order or John Wells stopped with ER? How do you know the sitcom won’t be awesome? Maybe it won’t, but maybe it will. And that would be a good thing for The Office: Scranton. And besides, have you all missed this:
“NBC announced today that the most coveted time period of the coming season, the post Super Bowl slot, will be used to launch a spinoff of the network’s hit comedy series, “The Office.” Immediately following NBC Sports’ coverage of Super Bowl XLIII, the network will first present an original episode of “The Office,” followed by the debut of the new Greg Daniels comedy.” Do you understand what THAT means? The most coveted time slot on TV … and NBC just gave it to … what? 30 Rock? No. Law and Order? No. Heroes? No. THEY GAVE IT TO THE OFFICE. A year ago, there was a blind item in teh TV Guide that everyone knew reffered to The Office and how NBC passed it over for a huge promotion and everyone thought it was on the brink of cancellation. One year later and they have no only order 30 more episodes, they have just bestowed upon it this incredible honor of having the best time-slot of the entire TV season … and you’re worried about a spin-off? Well, if it weren’t the spin-off, we might all be watching Heroes after the Super Bowl. Just something to think about. And, sure, spin-offs don’t always work but didn’t anyone here watch Frasier? Facts of Life? Mork and Mindy? Or Law & Order: SVU? And even less successful spin-offs like Joey still had longer lives than half the crap that NBC dishes out as “comedy.” No need to be negative about it now … let’s just wait and see what the premise is, who’s gonna be starring in it, and in the meantime, let’s just assume it will be a good thing. Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery and to be a considered by the network a big enough hit to even warrant a sitcom is a kind of a big deal. Just saying …

I don’t know how I feel about this. The Office is unlike any other show and a spin-off will only be compared to it, which means it will probably tank. I think that there need to be a few more seasons as well before a spin-off can take place. And the article states that it will air right after the super bowl which sounds like a good idea, except right after the game is over I turn off the tv and relax. Maybe thats just me. I guess I need more info before I can get excited about it.
