Fictional TV character Michael Scott was tasked with choosing a new health care plan for his Dunder-Mifflin employees.
As with most of Scott’s tasks on the NBC workplace sitcom “The Office,” that request ends in calamity, as Scott misinterprets what he’s been asked to do.
“Does that make me a doctor? Yes, in a way. Like a specialist,” the clueless Scott, played by Steve Carell, says in Season 1′s “Healthcare” episode.
Nerinx Hall has tapped one of its own – who just happens to be one of the country’s hottest actresses — to chair this year’s AuctioNerinx, the school’s main fundraiser.
Jenna Fischer of “The Office,” a Nerinx class of 1991 grad, will chair the auction with Gina Baruzzini-Augsburger and Rita Switzer. The event is scheduled for March 13 at the Sheraton Westport-Chalet.
Some suicide prevention groups aren’t laughing over a scene in “The Office” where Steve Carell’s character tries to scare young children by struggling in a hangman’s noose.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and other mental health organizations say NBC and other entertainers should stop using suicide as a punchline. They worry that depiction of a method of suicide might encourage mentally ill people to take their own lives.
“We try not to be zealots about this,” said Robert Gebbia, the foundation’s executive director. “But this one … kind of crossed the line.”
A spokeswoman for NBC’s entertainment division did not have an immediate comment.
