Season 4 Wrap Up
The season started out with Michael hitting Meredith with his car in the parking lot. Meredith has to be hospitalized and there she finds out that she has rabies when she was bitten by a bat in the office!!!! Michael believes that the office must be cursed due to all of the bad things that have happened.
The first episode also reveals that Pam and Jim have FINALLY began dating. They tried to keep it a secret, but after a “PDA Reminder” from Toby, they eventually let everyone know that they are officially a couple. Though Pam and Jim have finally hooked up, things aren’t looking so great for Dwight and Angela. After Angela leaves Dwight in charge of taking care of a sick Sparkles, Dwight (thinking he was doing the right thing), kills Sparkles by leaving her in the freezer. This upsets Angela so much that she ends up breaking up with Dwight.
Ryan has been promoted in the company, and now has Jan’s position. His first big project is Dunder Mifflin Infinity – a website that will allow customers to buy paper online. When the website is finally launched – Dwight wants to impress Angela, so he “competes” with the website to sell paper….and he wins!!!! This does nothing to Angela, and soon after the launch of the website – Andy asks Angela out, to which she accepts.
Season 4 was pretty busy with relationships, as we also find out that Michael and Jan have moved in together. With Jan out of a job, Michael takes on a 2nd job working the late shift, and this affects his performance at Dunder Mifflin. Ryan finds out, and forces Michael to quit his second job.
Later in the season, Pam and Jim finally accept one of the many dinner party invitations that Michael and Jan have given them. They, along with Angela and Andy, go to the dinner party which turns into a disaster. Dwight, being jealous, shows up to the “couples only” party, with his previous babysitter. Michael and Jan end up getting into a huge argument, which results in their breaking up.
After the breakup, Michael wants to move on, and in his attempt, he “falls in love” with a chair model from a magazine whom he has never met. Dwight takes on the task of finding her, and in his attempt to do so – finds out that she has actually already passed away.
Later on, during a meeting that Michael is having – Stanley gets an attitude and backlashes on Michael in front of the entire office. Toby advises Michael to reprimand Stanley, but Michael is afraid to do so. Dwight finally talks him into doing it, and Michael’s bright idea is to stage a “fake firing”. When he does so, in front of the entire office, Stanley once again snaps at Michael, which makes Michael very angry. Michael sends out everyone except himself and Stanley, and breaks down and asks Stanley what he has against him. Stanley informs Michael that he has no respect for him, and Michael’s response is surprisingly very professional….he tells Stanley that though he does not like him, he must treat him respectfully in the office. This actually works on Stanley, and begins to cooperate with Michael.
Near the end of the season – Michael has some of the employees attend a Job Fair at Pam’s old high school to try to find a summer intern. During the Job Fair, Pam speaks to someone about a graphic designing job, that she finds out she doesn’t have anywhere close to the experience of schooling needed for it. While the job fair is going on….Jim, Kevin, and Andy are out playing golf with a former client. Jim, in his attempt to improve his job performance because he was recently put on probation by Ryan for slacking off too much, tries to get the former client to return his business to Dunder Mifflin. After several miserable attempts, Jim decides to give it one last shot as the client is leaving in his car. He returns to the office and celebrates with a beer over his success!!!!
The season wraps up with Toby’s last day of work. Michael wants to throw a huge party because he’s so excited, but Angela refuses because his demands are too outrageous. Phyllis says that she’ll take on the task of planning the party. On Toby’s last day, he introduces to the office the new HR representative, who Michael initially does not like, but after spending some time speaking with her, he develops feelings for her. They spend most of the day flirting and getting to know each other.
Jim decides to call Ryan and let him know that he feels that Ryan is treating him unfairly – which goes to voicemail. Later on, everyone in the office gathers around a computer to look at a YouTube video to see Ryan being escorted out of Dunder Mifflin by cops because he was committing fraud by having employees enter their sales twice online.
Finally, it’s time for the party, which starts off very well. Jim has already requested fireworks because he plans on proposing to Pam, which Pam gets news of from the camera crew. Kevin has to make a run to the grocery store and while there, he runs into a pregnant Jan, and so he calls Michael over (not telling Michael who is there). Michael and Jan catch up on things, and Michael finds out that the baby is not his – during their relationship she went to a sperm bank and that’s how she got pregnant. Michael is initially upset, but then he decides to deal with it and agrees to go to a Lamaze class with Jan. By doing so, he decides to stop courting Holly, the new HR rep.
At the end of the night, the fireworks go off as planned. Jim gets ready to pop the question, but right before he’s able to speak the words – Andy gets on stage and proposes to Angela….ruining Jim’s plan. Angela says okay, and Dwight looks devastated. Pam is disappointed because she wanted Jim to propose to her. The episode concludes with Meredith walking back into the office that night….walking in on Angela and Dwight apparently having sex in the office.
Season 5 sure does have a lot of high expectations to meet!!!!
Thank you so much Priscilla, this was great!
