Steve Carell Is Ham Of The Year

Surprise! Erstwhile “Office” funny man Steve Carell has been named “Ham of the Year” by GQ magazine.

In the magazine, Carell’s “Date Night” co-star, Tina Fey, fetes him in an essay:

“When we were shooting Date Night (or as it’s called in Germany, Fig Nacht), Steve gave me the most excellent birthday present: eight frozen Gino’s East deep-dish pizzas. Like Steve, Gino’s East pizza got its start in Chicago, where people know pizza. Like Steve, they are stuffed full of goodness.”

Steve Carell Turns Focus to Movies Now

Daily Herald:

Steve Carell is not going through Michael Scott withdrawal —at least not yet.

“I don’t sit at home and think of ‘that’s what she said’ jokes and wish that I could do them one more time,” says the actor, laughing. “But it’s only been a few months, too, so I haven’t really had any time. All of that is still fresh to me.”

Carell’s sendoff from “The Office” (for which he received a parting Emmy nomination) is still fresh in many viewers’ minds, too. The emotional hubbub over his exit after seven seasons caught Carell by surprise. He was flattered, he says, but, with typical humility, considers it “just an actor leaving a show.”

The Office: Steve Carell Thinks Spader Will Be Excellent

Access Hollywood:

Steve Carell may have left “The Office,” but he has a few things to say about the replacement for Michael Scott – James Spader’s Robert California.

“I think it’s an excellent choice,” Carell told Access Hollywood on Monday of the new addition to the Dunder Mifflin group. “I think it’s great and he will infuse all this new energy into the show.”

Carell, who was promoting his upcoming film “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” during the interview, said his former “Office” mates were also pleased with Spader joining the crew.

“In talking to the cast, everyone’s very excited and I know it’ll be a good season,” he said.

EMMYS: Last Chance For Steve Carell?

It hasn’t happened during his first five tries, not even in 2006 when his NBC sitcom The Office earned an Emmy for top comedy series. Carell was favored that year to win Lead Actor in a Comedy as well. But instead, it went to Tony Shalhoub for USA Network’s Monk. And then to Ricky Gervais for HBO’s Extras in 2007; to Alec Baldwin for NBC’s 30 Rock in 2008 and 2009; and last year, to Jim Parsons for CBS’ The Big Bang Theory. Carell was nominated each time. Which brings us to 2011, and Carell’s last opportunity to bring home the Emmy as the doofus boss Michael Scott, in a role originally played by Gervais on a series originally conceived in Britain. Will this be Steve’s year? If it’s based solely on merit, yes, according to The Office showrunner and fellow performer Paul Lieberstein who says, “He certainly deserves it. I don’t think anyone on television has done as much as Steve has for The Office. No one has consistently driven both comedy and heart the way he has from moment to moment on this show. He can draw you in with tears and, at the same time, make you laugh with a joke. You can go to him as the biggest buffoon and the smartest guy in the room on the same page and make you believe both of them. He’s just so enormously talented that he has my vote.”

Steve Carell finishes filming on ‘The Office’

LATEST NEWS:

MARCH 23:
EW.com:

“Actually, the last day of shooting with Steve was more intense than I anticipated it would be,” Wilson continued. “There actually wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was really sad. It was very difficult to make comedy when there was a heaviness hanging over the proceedings. It’s a great episode. Steve is magnificent in it. Maybe he’ll finally win that Emmy he has deserved for like seven years.”

For now, Wilson can’t say how Michael Scott’s departure will affect the other characters. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. We have Will Farrell for a little while and then we will have a few to shoot without a single A-list movie star. We’ve just got to see what happens,” Wilson said. “ Dwight is sad. He’s losing his best buddy and his office hero. Actually all the characters are sad to see him go as are the actors but everyone understands and we will do our best to fill the void.”

‘The Office’: Director Paul Feig on Steve Carell’s ‘very emotional’ last episode

“We were exhausted by the end of that week. You thought you’d stop being sad or stop emotional, but every scene was, ‘Oh, we just did the last conference room’ or ‘Oh, we just did the last talking head.’ So it was pretty wild,” he told EW at PaleyFest’s salute to Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared Saturday night.

Leading up to the Carell exit, guest star Will Ferrell will first show up on the April 14 episode of The Office. He’ll also appear on April 21, and again on the April 28 Michael Scott farewell.

After Carell departs, Ferrell will stick around for one more episode (May 5). Ferrell, of course, is not the show’s permanent Michael Scott replacement. The fate of the Dunder Mifflin regional manager job will play out on the show’s season finale, an hour-long episode set to run on May 19.

Rainn Wilson just tweeted that today is Steve Carell’s final day of filming on the sitcom. We shouldn’t say goodbye to Carell just yet. There are still a few more episodes with Michael Scott, and the actor’s post-Office schedule is packed with intriguing movie projects. But let’s all take a moment to consider the end of an era. And let’s thank Carell for all the funny/awkward/sad Office memories — TV won’t be the same without him.
