Mindy Tweets: Michael Scott Stories That Were Never Used

Now that Michael Scott is leaving, Mindy Kaling has been tweeting some Michael Scott story plots that the writers never got around to do.

Check these out from @mindykaling:

“I always wanted Michael Scott to be Tony Scott and Ridley Scott’s first cousin. He loved Tony but was “eh” on Ridley.”

“There was a full day of pitching on Michael Scott meeting Markie Post at the mall, accomplishing a life-long dream”

Long time Office writer Mike Shur (Mose) got in the action too! He replied to Mindy with his Michael Scott story: “One day, Michael does each job in the office for one hour, and nearly brings Dunder Mifflin down completely.”

Mindy replied: “@KenTremendous I remember that one! I wish we had done when Michael found a stop on the Underground Railroad!”

“Not a story per se, but Michael auditioning for SNL with his characters and @sethmeyers21 gently walking him to the 30 Rock exit was a dream”

“Michael gets accused of something and is exonerated because there’s footage of him outside The Today Show behind Al Roker”

“Michael gets Lasik but can only afford to get it done to one eye.”

“Michael feels unnappreciated and does a “Ms. Nelson Is Missing”-type fake horror boss.”

Vanity Fair Interviews Michael Shur and Paul Feig

The first interview is with ‘Office’ writer Michael Shur. Here’s a little snippet…

VF Daily: Can you tell me a little about how the writing process on The Office works?

Michael Schur: We all come in in the morning, and we just toss stuff out. If we hit a wall or something, and it doesn’t seem to be progressing, we’ll switch to some other idea. But it’s really just all the writers sitting around on some pretty uncomfortable fake leather couches for hours and hours and hours, just tossing out ideas about whatever story we’re talking about.

Here’s another interview with ‘Office’ writer Paul Feig…

Does the documentary style of The Office make it easier for the director?

Totally. You don’t have to shoot in the standard style that you usually use for movies and TV shows. That is, let’s say two people are at a dinner table talking to each other. You would generally shoot one person from one direction, kind of over the shoulder of the other person; then you’d flip the cameras around, relight, and go the other way. But since the conceit of The Office is that it’s a documentary, you’d never set up shots where one camera can see the other camera. So it allows you to go very quickly, because you don’t have to reset the lighting within a scene.

Philbin Loses ‘Best Regis’ to Baby Grandson

Regis Philbin has lost the “Best Regis” award yet again. And this time, it’s personal: The winner is Philbin’s infant grandson, William Xavier.

The 7-month-old bested Philbin for the honor at the announcement Thursday of the sixth annual Relly Awards — Philbin’s version of the Emmys.

“He is cute, but does he REALLY deserve the Relly?” spouted the 77-year-old talk-show host, a loser for the fifth straight year, on “Live With Regis and Kelly.” The “Best Regis” category was introduced in 2004.
