Q: Are you finished with The Office yet?
A: I am finished, yes. I wrapped in mid-February.
Q: So tell me, where does Carell’s character end up?
A: You know I can’t tell you. [Laughs] What I can tell you is that my last episode is called “The Proposal.” That’s common knowledge, if you go on the Internet. I promised the people over at The Office that I wouldn’t talk about it, but I will say that I do leave the show before he leaves the show.
Though she was mum on details regarding Scott’s replacement, she did confirm to us that her beloved character Holly Flax will not return in future seasons. And while that news bummed me out, it was quite hilarious to hear that she thinks her Win, Win co-star Paul Giamatti should make a pit stop in Scranton.
Daughter Georgia Gracie Slovin arrived on Oct. 15 in New York City. ”All are doing well and so happy,” Ryan’s rep tells PEOPLE.
The actress, 39, was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 2007’s Gone Baby Gone, and has most recently appeared on The Office as Michael Scott’s love interest, human resources rep Holly Flax.
Here’s a preview of Amy Ryan on the November 2, 2008 cover of Page Six Magazine.
In this week’s Page Six Magazine – Amy Ryan talks about what it takes to be famous and how a guest stint on The Office may be just what the actress needs to catapult her to stardom – and allow her to live happily ever after.
SPOILER WARNING! There are no spoilers in the paragraph below but continue reading and you’ll run into a few.
After her debut in last season’s finale as the new HR representative at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch, actress Amy Ryan returns this week as Holly on NBC’s hit comedy The Office. We hung out on the Universal backlot with the actress, who grabbed an Oscar nomination for last year’s Gone Baby Gone and who will appear later this month with Angelina Jolie in Changeling.
Here’s a great interview with Amy Ryan from MetroBostonNews.com.
“What was it like walking into that bonded group on “The Office”?
You feel like a transfer student from another school that is, collectively, one of the most grounded, down to earth, hilarious groups of successful actors. They went out of their way to make me feel welcomed, but also spent a lot of time teasing me. Why would I possibly be nominated for an Oscar and then come be on a sitcom? They said I had it all backwards, but I disagree whole-heartedly. It was a new avenue for me to go down — comedy — not looking for my dead baby under a bus.”
Spoiler warning! This article may be a bit spoilerish for some.
Amy Ryan’s stock went way up this year after she received an Academy Award nomination for her tour de force performance in “Gone Baby Gone.”
And with that newfound clout, she decided her next big role would be … guest starring on a sitcom?
That might sound like a bizarre career move for an actress of Ms. Ryan’s caliber, but then “The Office” isn’t your typical sitcom. And Ms. Ryan isn’t your typical actress.
When the Scranton-set NBC comedy begins its fifth season Thursday night at 9, Ms. Ryan will be back as new Dunder Mifflin Scranton human resources representative Holly Flax.

What’s in store for the Toby-Pam-Jim triangle? Could Toby be a genuine obstacle to them? Said Paul Lieberstein, who plays the Scranton branch’s HR director emeritus Toby Flenderson: “Pam’s going to take an internship in New York, and Pam and Jim are going to try long-distance dating, and that’s going to be the source of obstacles for them. Toby is less of a threat than the price of gas.”
Is Holly Flax serious about Michael Scott? Amy Ryan (new human resources director Holly Flax) says that Michael and Holly’s infatuation with one another is just proof of her belief that, “There’s a lid for every pot?or in this case, every crackpot.”
Contrary to popular belief, Oscar recognition is not necessarily a ticket to stardom. And so, despite having scored a nomination at last year’s Academy Awards for her part in “Gone Baby Gone,” Amy Ryan insists she is still “pretty anonymous.”
That status may change, however, when the new season of “The Office” premieres on NBC on Sept. 25. In the finale in May, Ryan joined the show as Holly, a human resources executive who catches the eye of awkward boss Michael, played by Steve Carell. Fortunately for the actress, it was more than just a flirtatious tease: She is set to appear in a six-episode arc, in which her greatest challenge might just be maintaining her composure among her castmates.
