John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and Ed Helms sign for Season 9:
Ed Helms, Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski have all signed new contracts to return for Season 9 of the NBC comedy, Deadline reports. Their deals had been set to expire after this season, which ends Thursday (May 10).
Krasinski and Helms may get some time off next season to accommodate their movie schedules, the report says, but keeping the leads around can only help the show, which went through an overhaul following Steve Carell’s departure last season and probably couldn’t afford another wholesale change. As it stands, Mindy Kaling (who’s also a writer and producer) is leaving for a FOX comedy, and Rainn Wilson is developing a potential Dwight-centered spinoff with showrunner Paul Lieberstein, who’s also stepping down.
B.J. Novak’s “Office” contract is also up, but he hasn’t started negotiations yet.

Hollywoodreporter.com:
Helms is submitting himself for consideration in the category of outstanding lead actor in a comedy, his rep has confirmed. Helms previously submitted as a supporting player for the past six seasons.
This pits the Hangover star against such formidable leading funny-men as 30 Rock’s two-time winner Alec Baldwin, Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory, who won consecutive lead actor trophies in 2010 and 2011, and last year’s first-time surprise nominees Louis CK of Louie and Johnny Galecki of Big Bang.
If Helms wins an Emmy for his role as Dunder-Mifflin’s newly minted office manager Andy Bernard, he’d pull off a feat even Carell couldn’t accomplish during his entire run on the NBC comedy.

Deadline:
NBC’s The Office went through a major transformation at the beginning of this season, following the departure of original star Steve Carell. But I hear the show, which has not been officially renewed, may undergo an even more dramatic change going into next fall. Word is that The Office executive producer Greg Daniels, who originally developed the American version of the cult British comedy, is mulling a reboot of the series, now in its eighth season. Daniels is expected to meet with NBC brass to lay out his idea for The Office 2.0, which I hear would feature existing characters as well as new ones. As for The Office key original cast members John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and B.J. Novak, whose contracts are up at the end of this season, as well as that of Ed Helms, there hasn’t been a lot of movement in the negotiations over the past few weeks, following an early overture by the network around the time The Office spinoff starring Rainn Wilson came together.
